Export everything you might want before you confirm the cancellation. Not after: several vendors revoke export capability at the moment of cancellation rather than at the end of the paid period, which means the window you assumed you had does not exist.

The free tier frequently covers what you actually do now, as opposed to what you were doing when you subscribed. Downgrading rather than cancelling preserves your data and stops the charge.
